Why This Recipe Works

The beauty of bacon-wrapped mozzarella sticks lies in the simplicity and the flavor explosion you get from such a straightforward recipe. The frozen mozzarella sticks are already tasty on their own, but wrapping them in bacon takes them to a whole new level.

The real key here is to get that bacon nice and crispy while keeping the cheese perfectly melty inside. Plus, you can customize the seasoning to your liking, making it even more delicious. It’s like a flavor bomb waiting to go off.

Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need for these scrumptious bacon-wrapped mozzarella sticks:

6 Frozen Mozzarella Sticks
6 slices Bacon
1 to 2 teaspoon Salt, Pepper, Garlic (SPG) or your favorite BBQ Rub
Marinara Sauce for dipping

These ingredients are simple and easy to find, but they pack a punch when combined. I like to use a good quality bacon for a better result, and sometimes I’ll spice things up with a BBQ rub that has some extra spice to it.

How to Make It

Alright, let’s get into the nitty-gritty of making these bad boys. First things first, take your frozen mozzarella sticks out. They work best when they’re still a bit frosty, so don’t let them sit out too long.

Start wrapping each mozzarella stick tightly with a slice of bacon. I like to cover as much of the cheese as possible to ensure every bite has that crispy bacon goodness. It can be a little tricky to get the bacon to stay in place, so I use toothpicks to secure the ends. Just make sure the seam is on the bottom when you place them on the baking sheet.

Once wrapped, it’s time to season them. I sprinkle a bit of salt, pepper, and garlic (or whatever BBQ rub I’m feeling) all around the sticks. Don’t be shy with the seasoning; it really brings out the flavor of the bacon and cheese.

Now, preheat your smoker to 400 degrees. If you don’t have a smoker, a grill works just as well. The key is to get that high temperature so the bacon crisps up nicely.

Place the baking sheet with the wrapped sticks in the smoker. I usually set a timer for about 15 to 17 minutes, and flip them halfway. This ensures the bacon cooks evenly. Keep an eye on them because you want that bacon to be golden and crispy while the cheese inside gets nice and gooey.

Once they’re done, take them out and let them rest for a few minutes. Trust me, this step is important so that the cheese doesn’t spill out everywhere when you take a bite.

Tips / Variations

Now, if you’re looking to mix things up a bit, there are plenty of ways to customize this recipe. For a twist, try swapping out mozzarella for cheddar or pepper jack cheese. The extra sharpness from cheddar or the spiciness from pepper jack can really elevate the flavor profile.

Three bacon-wrapped snacks are stacked on a wooden surface, with more on a blue and white patterned plate in the background. The bacon appears crispy and seasoned.

Another idea is to add some spices directly to the cheese before wrapping it. A sprinkle of crushed red pepper or some smoked paprika can add a nice depth.

And if you want to take it a step further, consider serving these with a variety of dipping sauces. Marinara is classic, but a spicy aioli or ranch can take these to a whole new level.

Serving Ideas

These bacon-wrapped mozzarella sticks are perfect for any gathering. Whether you’re hosting a backyard BBQ, game day, or just a casual get-together, they’ll be a hit. Serve them on a platter with some marinara sauce for dipping, and watch them disappear.

Another fun idea is to pair them with a refreshing salad to balance out the richness. A simple arugula salad with a light vinaigrette offers a nice contrast to the crispy, cheesy bites.

Closing

So there you have it-my take on bacon-wrapped mozzarella sticks. They’re easy to make, ridiculously tasty, and perfect for sharing (or not, no judgment here). Give it a shot the next time you fire up the grill or smoker. I promise you’ll be glad you did. Happy cooking!
