Serving Suggestions
This candied bacon recipe is insanely versatile. Serve it as a side for brunch, crumble it over salads for a sweet and savory kick, or enjoy it straight off the rack (no judgment here). It’s also a fantastic addition to charcuterie boards for a little unexpected treat.
Use these candied bacon strips on sandwiches, burgers or maybe even a grilled cheese. For additional spicy flavor add a sprinkle of cayenne pepper, chili powder or red pepper flakes to the brown sugar mixture. Or start with maple bacon for additional flavor.
Recipe Notes & Pro Tips
- Don’t walk away from the glaze: The alcohol content in Fireball whiskey can catch fire if left unattended. If it happens, calmly remove the pan from heat and let the flames die down naturally.
- Keep stirring: After adding the cornstarch, the glaze thickens fast-in about 30 seconds. Keep stirring and remove it from heat as soon as it becomes syrupy.
- Storage Tip: Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days, although I doubt it’ll last that long. They'll be gone in no time though.
- Bacon Thickness: I recommend using thick-cut bacon slices for the best texture and flavor.
- Black Pepper: A little black pepper, or fresh cracked black pepper more specifically goes a long way in enhancing the flavor.
