Why You'll Love This Recipe

One of the reasons I keep coming back to this recipe is because it’s ridiculously easy to make with ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen. The smoky bacon mixed with chocolate really elevates these crackers to the next level.

A grid of square saltine crackers arranged neatly on a sheet of parchment paper. The crackers have a light, baked texture with small holes and brown spots, set against a rustic wooden background.

Items You'll Need

You’ll only need a few simple items to whip up this chocolate bacon crack recipe. Grab yourself a sleeve of saltine crackers, dark brown sugar, unsalted butter, crispy bacon pieces, and some semisweet chocolate chips or milk chocolate.

Make sure you also have parchment paper, a baking sheet, a medium saucepan, and some paper towels handy.

Chopped pieces of raw bacon are spread out on a wooden cutting board with a rich grain pattern. The bacon is pink with visible layers of fat, and the board shows a textured surface.

Instructions

To start, I preheat my oven to 350°F and line my baking sheet with parchment paper. Next, I lay out a single layer of crackers neatly to form the base. While the oven heats up, I chop a pound of bacon finely and cook it until crispy, then drain it thoroughly on paper towels.

In the same medium saucepan I used for cooking the bacon, I melt butter and dark brown sugar together over medium heat. Stirring continuously, I let the mixture come to a gentle boil before lowering the heat and simmering for about three minutes until it's a deep golden brown. Next, pour this caramel over the crackers, spreading it evenly—a little bit unevenness won’t hurt!

A red spatula stirs crispy bacon bits in a hot pan of bubbling oil and foam on a stove. The motion creates a ripple effect across the surface of the liquid. The pan has a non-stick, textured bottom.

After that, sprinkle the crispy bacon pieces and semisweet chocolate chips generously over the caramel-coated crackers. After popping it in the oven for 7-10 minutes, I watch carefully to prevent burning—this step is crucial, especially your first time making this bacon crack recipe.

Once it’s done baking, remove the pan and let everything cool completely at room temperature.

To stop the cooking process immediately, I carefully lift the parchment paper off the baking sheet and set it aside to cool. When it’s completely cooled down, I break the sheet into individual bacon crackers. They’re ready to eat right away, or you can store them in an airtight container to keep them fresh.

Serving Suggestions

This chocolate bacon recipe is fantastic served on its own, but it's also amazing as part of a snack tray or dessert platter. I’ve even served these bacon crackers alongside cheese and fruit for an interesting twist on a charcuterie board. Trust me, these amazing flavors will definitely impress your guests!

Recipe Notes & Pro Tips

Here are a couple quick tips that make my bacon crack even better:

The best way to ensure even chocolate coverage is by spreading chocolate chips immediately after baking, allowing them to melt naturally if desired. I sometimes like to leave the chips whole as well.

Next time, try adding real maple syrup to the caramel mixture for an even richer flavor.

Be cautious during baking; caramel burns easily, especially the first time you try this recipe. Mixing semisweet chocolate chips with milk chocolate also creates a more balanced, indulgent taste. Always store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for the best freshness.
