These Dill Pickle Saltines are one of those really fun recipes that will “WOW” your party guests and family. They’re crispy, buttery, and packed with that classic tangy, herby dill pickle flavor. They’re utterly irresistible and so easy to make!

If you’ve never heard of this snack, you’re in for a treat! You’re basically going to coat a box of crackers with a buttery, seasoned mixture with all those classic pickle flavors like dill and tangy vinegar. Then, you bake them in the oven or smoker until golden brown and crispy.

Each bite is seriously packed with flavor, and they’re especially delicious while still warm from the oven. I always recommend using the smoker because the extra smoke flavor really takes them over the top!

  • Absolutely irresistible snack, especially for the dill pickle lovers
  • Great for a party, family movie night, or any occasion
  • Can easily be made ahead to have the snacks ready to go
  • Crispy, crunchy bite with tons of pickle flavor

Ingredients

  • Mini saltine crackers – Saltines are great because they’re crispy and have a neutral flavor that can easily be doctored by a few simple seasonings. Feel free to use any type of crackers you prefer.
  • Melted unsalted butter – This will help the seasoning mixture stick to the crackers and make them crisp up nicely in the oven. Olive oil works well, too, but won’t add quite as much flavor.
  • Seasonings – For that classic dill pickle flavor, combine ranch seasoning powder, garlic powder, and dried dill weed.
  • Dill pickle juice – This is key to get that tanginess you expect from dill pickles. Don’t worry – it cooks down to mellow out the sharpness while adding just enough tanginess.

How to Make Dill Pickle Saltines

  • Pour the box of mini saltines into an aluminum pan or baking dish.
  • In a small bowl, mix the seasonings and dill pickle juice with the melted butter.
  • Pour the ranch seasoning mix over the crackers and mix well to coat all crackers evenly.
  • Put in smoker or oven at 350 for 30 mins.
  • Stir every 10 minutes to cook evenly and get that smoke flavor on each one.
  • Serve warm, or allow to cool.

Fair warning: They will be hot, so you want to let them cool for a few minutes before eating. This will also allow the butter to fully absorb into the crackers and make them less greasy. These dill pickle saltines are so delicious!

Storing Suggestions

If you have leftovers, let them cool to room temperature, then store in an airtight container or Ziploc bag for 4-5 days. Make sure they are fully baked and crispy or they can become soggy in storage.

Tips & Variations

  • Try different crackers. I usually like to use smaller crackers to get lots of flavor and maximum crunch. Cheez-its are a fun option, Ritz or Club crackers are lovely, and even bite-sized oyster crackers will work.
  • Add some heat. Use the brine from spicy pickles and add red pepper flakes to the butter mixture.

How to Serve

You can serve these crackers as a fun appetizer or snack food at any sort of party. They make a great alternative to popcorn, Chex mix, or regular potato chips.

Feel free to pair them with your favorite dips for an extra kick of dill flavor, like my Dill Pickle Salsa or a ranch dip. So good!

FAQs

Can you make dill pickle crackers in the oven?

Many of my recipes can be cooked in the over OR smoker – this is one of them, just be aware that if you cook these in the oven you’ll be missing out on the delicious smoke flavor.

How far ahead of time can you make dill crackers?

The leftovers can last almost a week, but the flavor is freshest on days 2 or 3.

Can you make a larger batch?

Absolutely! This recipe is great for entertaining. But, I recommend making each batch in a separate pan to help everything cook evenly.
