Candied Bacon Wrapped Pretzels. When the history books are written and it’s all said and done, I sincerely hope that enough people have seen and heard about this recipe to make it into the record books. This is such a tasty and flavorful appetizer that is destined to be a hit at every single party and get-together where it’s served.
This recipe is inspired by my video that I did on social media called “Billionaire Bacon Twists” which is a combination of candied bacon, and inspired by Snoop Dogg’s billionaire bacon recipe. After a couple small tweaks on the recipe to make it fit well with the taste and flavor of the pretzel and here we are. Absolute perfection.
Let’s Prep:
Candied Bacon Wrapped Pretzels ? You got that right!
As with all recipes it’s important to have all of your ingredients readily available to start. Luckily excluding the oven or smoker, this recipe only has 5 ingredients to prep. Measure out your brown sugar, black pepper, crushed red pepper and get out the bacon and pretzels and you’re ready for some candied bacon wrapped pretzels.

Once you’ve gotten all of your ingredients ready. The first step is to mix the dry ingredients that make this recipe so magical. It’s not enough to just cook bacon! We are going to transform the bacon into something even more awesome. Brown sugar, black pepper, and crushed red pepper get mixed together to incorporate well, then the individual strips of bacon and dredge the bacon into the dry mix until the bacon is ready to become candied bacon. Make sure the bacon slices are evenly coated – the mix will stick to it with no problem because of the grease that’s naturally in the bacon.
Once the bacon is well covered, it’s time to put the ingredients together to make candied bacon wrapped pretzel. In one hand hold your pretzel in the other hand start draping the bacon over your pretzel. Start at one end and wrap in a diagonal fashion around the pretzel. You should be able to cover most of, if not all of the pretzel when you’re wrapping. Be sure your loose ends (where you stop and start) the wrapping are on the bottom of the pretzel. This will hold them together nicely as they cook and make for a great look presentation when you serve them.
I prefer to use a wire rack when cooking recipes like this one. It makes moving the food incredibly easy to be able to get everything on and off at the same time. It also eliminates the worry of food falling through the grates / rack of your oven or smoker.
Let’s Cook:
Let’s get cooking. This recipe can be made in either the oven or the smoker. Be advised though for those that don’t have the smoker option available to them – in the absence of the smoke flavor, the sweetness of the sugar may be a little more forward. Luckily though, it’ll still be delicious.
When I cook this in the oven, I prefer to use the same time and temperature as I do when I’m using the smoker. There’s a reason for this. Bacon cooks differently when it’s warmed up first as happens naturally with the smoker recipe. When you have bacon wrapped around another food, it can tend to act “shocked” and tense up very quickly though not holding it’s shape.

Let’s Eat:
Now that they are done cooking it’s time to take the bacon wrapped candied pretzels off to rest. A couple things to keep in mind here. The pretzels will feel soft/soggy while cooking (they will be flexible). This is ok. The candied bacon wrapped pretzels will firm up when you take them off the heat. I don’t understand how this works, but it’s science that I love. You’ll have a crunchy pretzel, with crunchy bacon, that’s got an absolute perfect sweetness to it.

I ended up smoking at 250 longer due to the thickness of the bacon and at 400 closer to 35 minutes for the same reason, but it still tasted fantastic . Thanks for sharing your recipe
