Watch Me Make It

I’m telling you right now—these garlic parmesan puff pastry bacon twists are about to be your new favorite party snack. There’s just something magical that happens when flaky pastry hugs crispy bacon, then gets brushed with melted garlic butter and topped with parmesan cheese. It’s like everything you love about cheese twists, bacon, and garlic bread all rolled into one glorious bite.

A box of Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry Sheets rests on top of a package of beef center cut steak on a wooden surface.

These puff pastry bacon twists are one of my go-to quick appetizers because they look impressive but are insanely easy to make. You only need a few ingredients and a hot oven, and you’ll have a snack that disappears faster than you can say “pass the parmesan.”

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

These puff pastry bacon twists combine savory bacon with cheesy, herby flavor in a flaky texture that’s totally addictive. They’re super simple to prep and only take about 10 minutes of hands-on time before they hit the oven.

Several raw bacon strips are laid out on rectangular pieces of dough, which are arranged on a wooden cutting board. The surface beneath the cutting board has a striped pattern.

They’re the perfect way to upgrade store-bought puff pastry dough into something totally crave-worthy and crowd-pleasing.

Ingredients / Tools You’ll Need

  • 1 lb thin or regular sliced bacon
  • 2 puff pastry sheets (let them come to room temperature before using)
  • 1 tsp oregano (fresh is great, but dried works just fine)
  • 1 tsp parsley (again, fresh preferred but dried is fine)
  • 6 tbsp salted butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp shredded parmesan cheese
  • Garlic powder
  • Italian seasoning
  • Olive oil (optional for brushing if not using butter)
  • Parchment paper
  • Baking sheet
  • Rolling pin
  • Sharp knife
  • Small bowl

Instructions

Preparation

First things first, preheat your oven to 350°F so it’s ready to go once you’re prepped. To get the puff pastry bacon twists started, lay out one sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and gently roll it out with a rolling pin to smooth the folds.

Place strips of bacon in a single layer across the puff pastry sheet, pressing them down slightly so they stick but don’t overlap. You’ll begin to see the puff pastry bacon twists taking shape.

Two hands in black gloves twist a raw strip of bacon over a wooden cutting board with more bacon strips laid out next to it.

Next, use a sharp knife to cut the pastry and bacon into long 1-inch wide strips. You’ll want the bacon and pastry to be cut cleanly together so the twists hold their shape while baking. This will make the puff pastry bacon twists easy to twist and will cook more evenly.

Carefully twist each bacon strip from both ends, gently pulling the bacon in the opposite direction of the pastry to create that perfect spiral look.

Lay each puff pastry bacon twist onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet with a little space between each one. If you have a non-stick baking sheet, that works too.
I like to sprinkle a bit of Italian seasoning and garlic powder (optional) on top before baking for extra flavor.
If you’re using store-bought puff pastry dough, just make sure it’s fully thawed so it doesn’t crack while twisting. If it does, pinch it together so the puff pastry bacon twists look good when done!

Cooking

Slide the baking sheet into your hot oven and bake the puff pastry bacon twists for 35–40 minutes.
At the halfway point, flip each twist over to ensure both sides cook evenly and get that deep golden brown color.
You’re looking for the bacon to turn dark amber and the flaky dough to puff up and crisp beautifully.

While they bake, melt the butter in a small bowl and stir in the oregano and parsley. You can also toss in a pinch of garlic powder and black pepper if you’re like me and can’t resist a good garlic butter moment. This cheese mixture is what takes the twists to the next level once they come out of the oven.

Serving Suggestions

Once the twists are out of the oven, let them rest on the baking sheet for about 5–10 minutes to cool slightly. Brush each one with the melted butter and herb mix while they’re still warm. Sprinkle shredded parmesan cheese on top so it melts just slightly into the buttery coating.

Serve them hot right off the tray, or pile them high on a cheese board next to other simple appetizers like olives, cheese cubes, or dipping sauces.
They’re also amazing dipped in marinara, ranch, or a spicy garlic aioli if you’re feeling fancy.
If you happen to have leftovers (which I doubt), store them in an airtight container and reheat in the oven the next day to crisp them back up.

Recipe Notes & Pro Tips

Let your puff pastry sheet sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before you start.
This makes it easier to roll and twist without cracking or tearing the flaky dough. If your bacon is especially thick, you might want to par-cook it for a few minutes first so it fully crisps up in the oven.

Don’t skip the flip! Turning your puff pastry bacon twists halfway through cooking ensures they’re evenly golden brown and not soggy on one side Use parchment paper on your baking sheet to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier. Use a small bowl for your garlic butter so you can brush quickly without making a mess.

Variations

You can swap parmesan cheese for pecorino or even a spicy cheese blend if you want to mix things up flavor-wise on the puff pastry bacon twists. Add red pepper flakes or smoked paprika to your cheese mixture for a little heat. If you don’t eat pork, turkey bacon works just as well—just be sure it doesn’t dry out too much during baking.

Pro Tip: Normally I say anything with puff pastry needs an egg wash. This is the exception. The pastry strip will get all of the flavor and crispiness it needs from the salty bacon.

  • Instead of flaky puff pastry twists, you could try wrapping bacon around pizza dough strips for a similar idea with a bit more chew.
  • Want to go sweet and salty? Skip the garlic and herbs and brush with maple syrup and brown sugar for a candied version.
  • No matter how you spin it, this is a great recipe to keep in your back pocket for brunches, BBQs, and game day spreads.
  • I’ve made these puff pastry bacon twists for just about every type of party or get-together, and they never let me down.
  • They’re crispy, flaky, cheesy, salty, herby, and everything good in the world rolled into one.
Whether you’re making them for a crowd or hoarding them all for yourself, you’ll be glad you gave this recipe a try.
